What Is Home Care?

Home Care — compassionate support at home

Home care provides professional and personal support so seniors can stay safe, comfortable, and independent in their own homes.

Home care supports seniors who prefer to remain at home rather than move to a facility. Services range from companionship and help with daily activities to skilled medical care when needed — all tailored to each person’s needs.

Common Nonmedical Home Care Services

  • Assistance with bathing, dressing, and grooming (ADLs)
  • Meal preparation, housekeeping, and running errands
  • Mobility and transfer support
  • Incontinence care
  • Specialized support for Alzheimer’s and dementia

When Medical Care Is Needed

If medical needs are involved, home health care may be recommended. These services are provided by licensed nurses and therapists, and include monitoring conditions, administering treatments, and rehabilitation.

Frequently Asked Questions

An Assisted Living Facility (ALF) is a licensed residential care home where seniors receive help with daily living activities—like bathing, dressing, and medication management—while maintaining independence in a home-like environment. ALFs in Florida are regulated by the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA).

lorida ALFs offer a mix of personal care, meals, housekeeping, medication assistance, transportation, and social activities. Some facilities also provide specialized care, such as Extended Congregate Care (ECC), Limited Nursing Services (LNS), or Mental Health (MH) services.

Home Health Care brings caregivers and nurses directly into your home for medical or personal care, while Assisted Living provides housing with built-in care and supervision.
In short:
•🏠 Home Health Care = Care comes to you
•🏢 Assisted Living = You live where the care is available

Yes—Medicaid’s Long-Term Care Program may help cover part of the cost for eligible seniors. Plans like Florida Community Care and Simply Healthcare provide coverage for certain ALF services under state-approved programs.

BestCare4Mom LLC connects families with trusted Assisted Living Facilities and Home Health Care providers across Florida. With years of hands-on experience working with hospitals, case managers, and senior communities, our advisors help families find safe, affordable, and compassionate care for their loved ones.

A comprehensive assessment is done by a licensed professional or case manager to determine the level of care needed. If your loved one needs help with at least two daily activities (like bathing or dressing), an ALF might be appropriate.

Home Health Care services may include skilled nursing, physical therapy, wound care, medication management, and personal support services such as grooming, mobility assistance, and meal preparation.

According to Florida AHCA regulations, a shared resident room must provide at least 80 square feet per resident. Private rooms must have at least 100 square feet of usable floor space per resident.

Florida ALFs can have one or more of these license types:
•Standard License: Basic personal care and supervision.
•ECC (Extended Congregate Care): Allows aging in place with higher-level assistance.
•LNS (Limited Nursing Services): Offers some nursing care on-site.
•MH (Limited Mental Health): Provides care for residents with mental health needs.

Caregivers must complete state-approved training, background screening, and certification depending on the care type. For skilled nursing services, licensed nurses (LPN/RN) provide direct medical care under state and federal regulations.
